For the Child, a nonprofit that provides counseling for child abuse victims and their families, has two new board members, Debra Cole-Hall and Robert Perez. Both will strengthen the organization and help it achieve its mission to prevent child abuse, organizers said. Cole-Hall, Los Angeles County district attorney, will bring her legal expertise, and Perez, California Senate Majority Caucus consultant, his political know-how. Clara Andrews has received the Junior League of Long Beach’s Helen D. Newcomb award. With this award, the Junior League recognizes a member who both serves as a mentor or role model to others and embodies its mission to assist the community through leadership and volunteer work. Mark Sandoval, manager of the Marine Bureau at the city’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine, is now a member of the Board of Directors of the California Association of Harbor Masters and Port Captains for 2008. The American Public Works Association named Christine F. Andersen, Long Beach Airport director and former director of Public Works, as one of its top public works professionals. Andersen along with nine others from across the country and Canada were chosen to receive this award because of their expertise, dedication and service. Andersen has been working for the city since 2003 in addition to working with the APWA for almost 30 years. The Community Hospital of Long Beach Auxiliary honored member Janet Pierson with its Recognition Award. Since joining the committee, she has volunteered 1,900 hours. Eileen Mayers Pasztor, professor of social work at California State University, Long Beach, received the Child Welfare League of America’s award for “Outstanding Curricular Design.” Pasztor assisted in the creation and design of Parent Resources for Information, Development and Education, a curriculum geared to support foster and adoptive parents. She has been at CSULB since 1999. Jeffrey Henderson was hired recently as office manager and service assistant at FSC Securities. The Montana native has a bachelor’s in communications from Montana State University, Billings, and has served as Executive Director of the Bixby Knolls Business Association and founder of NeatFreak. The California Association of School Psychologists honored Dr. Judith McBride with its Sandra Goff Memorial Award for lifetime achievement. According to the organization, it is given to someone of exemplary service who has greatly contributed to school psychology. Of her many accomplishments, McBride was an early advocate for school psychology in California and has been on staff at the Long Beach Unified School District and California State University, Long Beach. Karen Codman, investment advisor representative for FSC Securities, has been awarded the title of Accredited Investment Fiduciary from Fiduciary360. In the past, Codman has used her financial expertise to teach college courses and today, assists others with their benefits planning and money management. Professional tobacconist, Tom Fallon, of Big Daddy’s Cigars of Naples, has qualified to become a member of the International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers Association. The association has 2,000 members worldwide, and with his membership Fallon will be able to attend trade shows, access market research and more. The Windes & McClaughry Accountancy Corporation recently named Brian Yacker a partner in its tax and accounting practice. Yacker has more than 16 years of experience in public accounting and was previously employed by Green Hasson & Janks, where he also was a partner. Yacker obtained a Juris Doctorate from the Indiana University School of Law and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, among other organizations. |
